That's right, folks, I'm sewing!

I can't remember whether I've mentioned it on my journal before, but I started sewing back in April/May in preparation for ArtBlast day (at St. Mary's in Ascot Vale) and I haven't looked back. I used to be bloody terrified of sewing, but now I seem to be making something everyday. Little Star Wars dolls seem to be the go (with the exception of my BIG Rogue Squadron doll). I've even figured out how to attach keyrings to them!

Anyway, I make all of them out of felt (sometimes using patterned cotton material for decoration). I'm also making felt Moleskine covers.

I kind of have a crazy passion for this now, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm contemplating maybe setting up an Etsy store, but I don't know. I'd like to do something with it.

Once I take photos of my felt journal covers I'll post them. My second one was made today at the June Craftinoon gathering of my like-minded friends!

So, I've only just started sewing in the last four months or so. This is my latest project, my very own Rogue Squadron pilot. Can't decide whether it's Wedge or Tycho. Anywho. I'm rather proud of it. I'm blanket-stitching the outside at the moment, and am going to pick up some stuffing tomorrow when I'm at uni.

And in other exciting news, I finally have a school placement for this year. Ivanhoe Primary School in one of the Prep classrooms. That is both great and scary news. (A classroom full of five year olds? Eek!) Plus, it means I have to ask one of the other teachers to use their class for my research project. Oh well.

Everyone's doing the whole "I am on Dreamwidth", so I might as well, too. Yes, I am over there. Same username. Add me if you want! (Eventually I'll try and track everyone down but this weekend is going to be overtaken by evil Maths Unit assignment of DOOM!) I'll be cross-posting to both journals from next week, I believe. I'm still rather fond of my LJ.

Finally, a quick reminder about my poll and questionnaire on teaching and visual arts in primary/elementary schools. If you get a handful of minutes you don't mind sparing I'll be very grateful!

The big bonus for the week was that I actually finished my femme_fic challenge fic on time.

Low point for the week - far too many hours of maths work yesterday, capped off with rolling my ankle at work (coming off a small stool trying to avoid a customer who chose to sit on the floor RIGHT BEHIND ME. GRR!)

A huge big thanks to [info]pixienamedkatie, [info]alacarta_renata and [info]lafillette7 for their thoughts and comments.

Just a reminder, if anyone has a little bit of time to comment on a few aspects of teachers/teaching and visual arts education, I have a poll and set of questions posted as part of some informal research I'm doing for my visual arts assignment.

And, I said I'd post a photo of my box (part of the above mentioned visual arts project):

It's not a great photo, unfortunately. I bought the pieces of the box, painted and decorated it (ala scrapbooking/papercraft) and then put it together (with a bit of help because it was pain in the butt to put together).

Okay, so I'm doing a little bit of informal research for my Visual Arts assignment, and I would love it if some of my awesome flist-ers could take a little bit of time to contribute!

It's nothing too serious, I promise. Just some quick questions on teachers/teaching and visual arts teaching/education. Please answer as much, or as little, as you like. I'm hoping to collect different points of view to put into my art sketchbook (with credit, of course).

If you want to post annonymously, that's fine, too. Or email me: novelteabox@gmail.com

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond to any of these questions! )

Thanks again to those who participated.
I'll have to post photos of my 'Teaching Box' (part of my Visual Arts assignment) later on to show everyone. I'm so proud of it!

Well, actually, on that episode's guest star, Jackson Rathbone, better known for his role as Jasper Hale in the Twilight film adaptation. (Fear not, spoilerphobes, no episode specific spoilers will be here, I promise.)

My favourite characters in the Twilight series are the secondary characters, specifically Alice and Jasper (amongst others). I liked Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, but like some others I thought his performance was probably a bit stiff - but given the character as Jasper, and the very little development given to the secondary characters in the film, I was willing to put that down to director/actor decisions to fit into the teeny-tiny film space allocation. That said, I have hoped that the portrayal will be slightly different in New Moon.

Jackson Rathbone was the special guest star in last week's Criminal Minds episode, Conflicted, and man he blew me away with his performance. Just watching him play the role that he was incredible and I don't doubt that the guy can act, because he acted his pants off. It was fantastic watching him in the scenes with Matthew Gray Gubler - another actor I think is fantastic in his role for four seasons now.

Ultimately, I think this post is my express wish that Jasper is written a lot better in the script for New Moon (and later in Eclipse) because he has the potential to wow audiences if he's given the opportunity to do so.

(Thus concludes my pointless ramblings for now. I'm off to catch up on Castle, and hopefully watch The Hitcher before I go to work!)

The Timestamp meme!

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least 100 words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future. Anything is fair game--anything from chaptered and finished to drabbles to WIPs.
